Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of these things and still be calm in your heart.

Congratulations Are in Order!

I love it when great things happen to great people. This week was no exception.

First, many congratulations to Emily, one of my closest childhood friends (one of the quilter's daughters, a fellow 4-Her, and a college roommate, among others!), on getting engaged last weekend on a Texas beach! All the best to you and Jon! I look forward to sharing this time with you.

Second, congratulations to my medical school friend Liz! She learned this past week that she matched for residency in ophthalmology at the University of Chicago. My friends Reebs, Meredith, and I helped her celebrate out on the town last week. It has been very rewarding to return to medical school and learn what fields my former classmates are choosing. All of you are lucky --- there are some excellent doctors heading your way out of the university this year! I'm only just a *little bit* biased!

Third, happy belated birthday to my friend Paula! Her partner Katie (another medical school friend) planned a surprise party for her last weekend at Wig and Pen, one of the best pizza places around ... here I am with Meredith, Katie, and Julie. During the clinical years, it's hard to get together because our schedules are so different, so it's fun when we do find a time to meet!
