Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of these things and still be calm in your heart.

Happy Birthday, America!

For an hour or so last night, I found myself alone atop a parking ramp downtown with a few gnats and two crows ... guess I didn't need to arrive quite as early as I did for the Iowa City fireworks display!!! Nonetheless, I had a killer view of Hubbard Park where they were being fired, and I was soon joined by my friends Jon and Susie, Joel, and Thomas ... enjoy the shots!

Jon, Susie, and I had a big day today --- the farmers' market, the New Pioneer Co-Op, a lunch of Spanish tapas at Devotay, a stop by a new sewing store and a used bookstore downtown, a trip to Stringtown Grocery and the Cheese Factory in Kalona, a visit to the Old Iowa Capitol museum, and an afternoon of music at the jazz fest --- plus some Whitey's ice cream! It's a blessing in life to have friends one is able to pick up in conversation right where you last left --- even if it's been a few months or even years since you last saw each other in person. True friendship is one of life's greatest gifts, indeed!
