SEVEN HOURS OF E-MAIL
Rather happily, we discovered that the day after Easter is a public holiday in Tanzania, so after rounding with Gillian, I spent literally seven straight hours checking e-mail --- it was delightful! After nearly a week with no electricity, it was nice to reconnect to the outside world. I learned that I am now attending a U2 concert in September, that I was selected for an arthritis APTR fellowship (apparently forgot to withdraw from that one!), and that I will now have to start searching for plane tickets to France this fall, as my sister Erin was selected to be a French teaching assistant. While my condo still has not sold (passed by one low-ball offer), it is still showing … so, all good news.
Gillian was kind enough to make us dinner again this evening --- a delicious combination of eggplant, green pepper, tomato, sweet potato, and pumpkin over rice. We split a dark ale and chatted away a few hours … tomorrow, we are going to go kitenge (African fabric) shopping in the local village and over to Nsemba’s house for dinner. We already leave next Thursday --- the coming week-and-a-half is going to pass us by quickly. One thing is certain --- I’m not quite ready to say goodbye.
