Today has been a great day, from the big and small blessings in life down to the weather itself. Here's my top five for the day:
5) I enjoyed my last day of my psychiatry rotation, a truly meaningful and insightful four weeks. The patients I saw today are all getting markedly better, and after 11:10 a.m. tomorrow, I will be DONE with my psych exam --- (perhaps I should be studying now?!).
4) I am excited for what the weekend holds --- a delicious steak at Senator Harkin's 30th Annual Steak Fry on the Indianola balloon festival grounds and the chance to "rub elbows" with nearly all the Democratic presidential candidates and countless thousands of others. Gates open at noon, and I plan to be there well before then. ;)
3) I was delighted to find my new copy of Health Affairs waiting for me when I got back from school today; this journal is widely recognized as the top health policy publication in the country, and it is mine, all mine! So, here's to several pleasurable days of reading about SCHIP reauthorization, Medicare Part D, consumer-driven health plans, health information technology in health centers, caring for vulnerable populations, and immigrant health. I know --- I am a nerd.
2) I just returned from a town hall meeting with Madeleine Albright, who was in town stumping for Hillary. I took the 'political plunge' and talked with one of the field organizers in the Iowa City office and got on board for volunteering from time-to-time at Hillary events as I move about the state. Fun, fun, fun --- and my newly acquired bumper stickers will surely add to my van's decor!
1) And the best and most important news of all --- my lifelong friend Susie's husband Jon returned home to Fort Gordon in GA yesterday, safe and sound from his tour of duty in Iraq. Welcome home, Jon!

Is this Susie from the State Fair pics Susie? I recognize her! Was she an FCA gal? So glad that all is well for them! And it's been *awesome* catching up on your past two months. And yes, you're a nerd, but an amazing, passionate, beautiful, brilliant, perfectly God-appointed to her life's work, nerd. Pretty much the best kind.
