It's not very often that I get to dress up, so I decided to go all out on Friday evening --- floor-length, black, satin dress, new wrap, black heels, and six-inch long, gold earrings. Thank goodness for body shapers. (Ladies, you know what I'm talking about!) The occasion was the unveiling of Iowa State's 150th anniversary $800 million capital campaign to increase student scholarships and endowed faculty positions and to improve campus facilities. The event took place under a large tent in the Iowa State Center courtyard and then moved on to the floor of Hilton --- red carpet, wine, the ISU marching band, and massive floral arrangements, to boot. It was a fun evening of catching up with friends, professors, college scholarship donors of mine, and state 4-H and ISU Alumni Association staff, including one of my favorite mentors of all time Liz Beck (above), the former director of the University Honors Program. We had a fun time laughing about the time my late-night pizza was inadvertently delivered to the Knoll (the home of the university president) at 2:30 a.m. INSTEAD of the Honors Cottage. My five years at Iowa State were incredible ones, for what I was fortunate to experience and for the friends I made that continue to this day, so it was a fun evening for me to reconnect with several people who meant a great deal to me while I was there ... and continue to do so.
