This is Eddie. I don't really know him, but I sure love this photo. Eddie is 93 and my grandfather's new roommate at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. While my family and I were visiting over Thanksgiving, we learned that he made his own violins and played several of them over the years. Eddie carefully showed us his handiwork and described all the details that must be considered when building one's own instrument. It was quite a tender moment ... and reminded me (yet again) of the unique opportunity we have to learn from one another. Someone who appears rather uninteresting at first glance is the one who turns out to be the most intriguing.
