Lis, one of my best friends from my summer in Brazil, moved here last Wednesday. She is going to be doing research at NIAID (one of the NIH institutes) for three years and is living with me in my dorm room until we find an apartment for her. Nothing like leaving summer in the southern hemisphere to arrive in D.C. in the middle of a very COLD snowstorm!!! She took it all in stride, and after picking her up from the airport, we went downtown to help set up the AMSA candlelight vigil. We had a little down time waiting for the sound and stage crew, so we checked out the nearby U.S. Botanic Gardens and the Capitol itself. Notice the Brazilian plants!!!
