Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of these things and still be calm in your heart.

Mom Comes to Washington

My dorm room has truly become a hotel in the past month! There was my friend from Iowa, my friend Lis from Brazil, and then my mother arrived for a week's visit and to attend the NAPUS (National Association of Postmasters of the US) legislative conference. While she was busy with her own meetings, I took part in my third conference of the month --- the Policy and Issues Forum for the National Association of Community Health Centers. I love the health center folk! We both had a couple days of freedom before our respective meetings started, so we explored parts of Washington that we never had previously: the Philips Collection, Hillwood Museum and Gardens, Library of Congress, the National Postal Museum, and yes, even the Textiles Museum (The gift shop was terrific!). These are some terrific orchids from Hillwood and one of the strangest lawn ornaments I have ever seen!
